Epic Games has officially launched its own app store in the European Union, an effort that’s been in the works for years now. With the rollout out Fortnite returns to iOS in Europe for the first since 2020, when it was banned for circumventing App Store policies, namely the 30% fee Apple takes from in-app purchases.

In the ongoing Apple-Epic legal drama, Epic was able to debut the store thanks to Europe’s Digital Markets Act, which requires Apple to allow for third-party app stores on mobile devices. The Epic Games Store is also available on Android devices.

Along with Fortnite, the store also offers Fall Guys and Rocket League Sideswipe. The process for downloading the store is a bit confusing but Epic has released a step-by-step video to explain the “slightly lengthy” process of downloading the store.

The company attributed the long process of downloading to “Apple and Google introducing intentionally poor-quality install experiences laden by multiple steps, confusing device settings, and scare screens.” Epic says that it’s continuing to fight in court to “eliminate the anticompetitive terms that Apple and Google impose on developers and consumers.”

While Fortnite is still banned in the US, Epic uses its own payment processor for its app store, making the launch a long-awaited win for the company. It also noted that the store works like any other app and will automatically update.
