Big Sean Samples Ye and Ty Dolla $ign’s “My Soul” Beat on New Single
Sean repurposed the beat for a track called “Fighting Fires.”
Big Sean has borrowed a beat from Ye and Ty Dolla $ign’s Vultures 2 LP for a track of his own, HipHopDx reported first.
When the rapper released his single “Fighting Fires” on SoundCloud, fans immediately noticed that it used the same beat at Ye and $ign’s “My Soul.”
The anthemic “My Soul” tackles themes of mass incarceration among Black men and contains a guest feature from $ign’s brother Big TC, who they say is wrongfully incarcerated for a crime he didn’t commit.
Sean’s “Fighting Fires,” meanwhile, sees the rapper reflect on his career and how far he’s come. It was originally teased in July as a collab with Ye, though he doesn’t appear on the version released on SoundCloud.
Sean will be releasing his new album, Better Me Than You, on Friday, August 30.
