Todd Snyder Is Launching a Premium Line Inspired by Mexico City
Titled the “Todd Snyder Collection,” the elevated label draws from the capital city’s rich colors and Luis Barragán’s architecture.
After headlining Pitti Uomo in Florence earlier this year, American menswear designer Todd Snyder is taking things up a notch with an all-new premium label.
“I wanted to create a new imprint that allowed me to dream up more aspirational looks and then produce these styles in small batches at Europe’s finest mills with premium Italian and Japanese fabrics,” Snyder said in a statement. “Creating looks for the [Pitt Uomo] runway and working with the gifted artists and weavers in Tuscany reminded me of why I became a designer in the first place and rekindled my desire to stretch creatively.”
Dubbed the “Todd Snyder Collection,” the fresh sub-label will release limited batches of higher-end styles biannually. The first installment, “San Cristóbal,” takes inspiration from the Mexico City neighborhood’s kaleidoscopic palette and Luis Barragán’s architecture. The sartorial results include gabardine suits, roomy double-breasted jackets, relaxed pleated trousers and belted shorts with double-reverse pleats.
“The unconstructed suit silhouettes felt right at home when we photographed the campaign at Luis Barragán’s Cuadra San Cristóbal,” Snyder added. “He famously said that any building that ‘does not express serenity is a mistake.’ And that’s how I feel about the easy drape of these new suits, which as I learned as a young tailor, is no easy feat to pull off.”
