Joshua Schulman Appointed as Burberry CEO
Can the 52-year-old reinvigorate Burberry alongside Daniel Lee?
Burberry is experiencing a significant shift, naming former managing director of Coach, Joshua Schulman, as its new CEO. Schulman will immediately replace Jonathan Akeroyd, taking over his position after two years in leadership.
Appointed Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director, the 52-year-old will officially join Burberry on July 17 and lead the Executive Committee in London. “I am deeply honored to join Burberry as Chief Executive Officer. Burberry is an extraordinary luxury brand, quintessentially British, equal parts heritage and innovation. Its original purpose to protect people from the weather is more relevant than ever. I look forward to working alongside Daniel Lee and the talented teams to drive global growth, delight our customers, and write the next chapter of the Burberry story,” says Schulman.
Schulman has extensive experience under his belt, having managed Michael Kors as CEO and Brand President between 2017 and 2022. He resided as President of NYC department store Bergdorf Goodman for half a decade while taking on major roles at Jimmy Choo, Yves Saint Laurent, and Gucci.
The news comes after Burberry ended Q4 with a weakening 12% fall while operating profits were down 25% amid an intense luxury slowdown. Schulman’s appointment will look to reinvigorate the British label alongside Daniel Lee’s creative direction, as the former will be “focused on global cultural relevance, product innovation, and digital growth, resulting in an inflection in sales and operating income.”
