Jazz’s repertoire — built on chord changes in standards like “Body and Soul,” “Take the ‘A’ Train,” and “Giant Steps” — is a key piece of the music’s past, present and future, so Blue Note Tokyo, Book Works and BEAMS T are saluting the repertoire in their own special fashion: by creating a collection dubbed “Three the Jazz Way.” Described by Book Works as a “reharmonization” of Blue Note’s well-known merchandise, “Three the Jazz Way” is a collaborative remix of staple Blue Note pieces that nods to the club’s “The Jazz Capital of the World” slogan.
The collection is made up of a duo of t-shirt graphics as well as a hat and a tote bag. One tee design features a large “Three the Jazz Way” hit on its chest with co-branded details on the back, while the other offers a world map “record” graphic with its own co-branded text hits, applied in small fashion on the left chest and full-sized style on the rear. Adjustable unstructured six-panel hats provide embroidered text graphics, and last but not least, tote bags are printed with various logo treatments.
Expect the collection to be made available at Blue Note Tokyo, as well as the BEAMS T store in Harajuku, BEAMS T’s network of stockists in Japan and the BEAMS webstore at 12:30 JST on July 14. To accompany the release, BEAMS T Harajuku will host a launch party from 5-8 PM on the same day (more details can be seen in the flier below, which offers a clever nod to the memorable cover art of Sonny Clark’s Cool Struttin’, a 1958 album widely regarded as a hard bop classic).
