It is without question that Aspen is one of Colorado’s key destination cities. But given its growing popularity amongst tourists, it’s rare that someone encounters a native’s experience of the city – offering more than just the most touted businesses.

Even though most of Chris Stamp’s work including his STAMPD brand is based in Los Angeles, the creative is actually an Aspen native. Since its 2011 launch in Los Angeles, STAMPD has been chronicling the extent of streetwear, which fuses inspiration notes from surfing, luxury wear and hip-hop. Even though the brand is still going strong and Stamp has his hands in other creative endeavors – one being Sushi Club with famed Chef Nobu Matsuhisa – a big part of Stamp’s heart resides in Aspen, where he grew up. So to offer another side of his story, Stamp shared some of his favorite recommendations for the snowy city across dining, shopping and more.

ASPENX

The epitome of Aspen exclusivity – ASPENX is the mountain town’s private club meant as a complement to the amazing powder. Choose to relax and truly enjoy your luxury vacation, or use the atmosphere to conduct some business, but just know; ASPENX isn’t for everyone, so consider yourself lucky if you’re able to get in.

“If you can get in, a nice to place to have lunch or unwind in between runs.”

Aspen, CO 81611

The Little Nell

A supplement to ASPENX, The Little Nell is your hotel destination for the discerning individual looking to enjoy their accommodation and rest just as much as their time on the slopes. Off-season months are a great time to experience this five-star hotel, but winter tends to have all rooms booked very quickly.

“Love the lobby and some of the best hot chocolate known to man. The dream location for ski in, ski out.”

Ute Mountaineer

As every skier or snowboarder knows – there’s always last minute wants and needs. Ute Mountaineer has provided opportunities for these necessities, while also catering to more general needs for the al fresco aficionados.

“When I buy technical outdoor gear, this is the best place to do it. Love some of the climbing accessories they carry too.”

Radio Boardshop

Much like the previous entry, Radio Boardshop offers boards and winter sport necessities. The quaint shop also offers a selection of skateboards and skate accessories too for the warmer summer months.

“Best for last minute boarding equipment. Cool and friendly crew working the store.”

Chrome Hearts Aspen

The fabled jewelry shop has found its home in Aspen in 2020, making it one of the younger locations under the brand. Nevertheless, Chrome Hearts Aspen offers a great selection of the brand’s silver and gold jewelry, the popular soft goods like hoodies and tees, as well as Aspen exclusive items like beanies, scarves, outerwear and more.

“It’s hard to walk out of here not wanting to buy the cashmere blankets when it’s cold. Also, insane CH chocolate.”

Pitkin County Dry Goods

A select shop of sorts, Pitkin County Dry Goods caters to the fashion-forward consumer who need a break from carving with a bit of shopping. The retailer offers items from brands like Maison Margiela, CP Company, A.P.C., Stone Island and much more.

“My mom used to work here back in the 80s and it’s still an Aspen institution. Always have an on-point selection of the current brands.”

Prada

For the demanding luxury shopper, a familiar brand like Prada not only offers the high-quality shopping they expect, but also a co-sign of sorts for the area and neighboring stores. While this shop is a bit smaller than its New York or Tokyo counterparts, it’s just as impressive, interior and design wise.

“One of the most beautiful Prada stores in the world. Gore-Tex Prada for the win.”

Spring Cafe

Looking for much needed fuel? Spring Cafe offers great American fares with a classic “home-made” appeal. Stop by for fulfilling meals, or comforting coffee and refreshments if you need a quick break.

Matsuhisa

From Tokyo with love – Matsuhisa‘s famed sushi has found solid ground in the luxury mountain town. Chef Nobu Matsuhisa is working closely with Chris Stamp as well for their Sushi Club line of restaurants, but Matsuhisa Aspen is a must-visit for those looking for Japanese entrees as well as excellent, masterclass-made sashimi.

“This is our Aspen family, and will find us doing dinner most nights at Matsuhisa while in Aspen.”

White House Tavern

For those who want to step away from the glitz and glamour but still expect an excellent meal, White House Tavern is the answer. Expect delectable meals – they specialize in sandwiches and salads – paired with awesome customer service, while keeping things low key in a classic Americana setting.

“Best Chicken Sandwich globally, and perfect comfort food for after the mountain.”

Aspen Art Museum

Step away from winter sports and enjoy a bit of culture at the Aspen Art Museum. With a wide range of ever-changing exhibitions featuring international artists, the beauty of the artwork outside matches the exquisitely intricate architecture outside. Visit the website for up-to-date details of its exhibits.

“Amazing museum designed by Architect Shigeru Ban. Always featuring an impressive mix of artists. Multiple floors with a cool roof top cafe – love stopping by here while in town.”

Belly Up

End the trip with a bit of exhilarating nightlife at Aspen’s best night club. Belly Up often features some of the best global artists, DJs and performers, despite it’s modest size and capacity. Drinks are of course up to par as well.

“For a night out, Belly Up always has some of the best artists coming through Aspen.”
