Charli xcx and Lorde Raise Each Other up on Remix of "Girl, so confusing"
Officially putting their “feud” to bed.
Charli xcx and Lorde have finally teamed up for a collaboration — remixing the former’s BRAT track “Girl, so confusing.”
Clocking in at approximately three-and-a-half minutes, the remix provides an intimate look at their relationship as two women in the industry that have been pitted against each other despite the fact they’re both “just a girl.” Lorde’s input also hears her detail her own struggles, specifically with her body image, as well as remembering the fact Charli is a human being just like her despite the fact they’re both at the top of their game.
More than anything, however, “Girl, so confusing” officially puts their “feud” to bed. In an industry that makes it difficult for two women to share the same space, Lorde and Charli utilize the collab — despite it being “manufactured” by the industry itself — to raise each other up while clearing the air.
In a recent Rolling Stone interview, Charli opened up about an incident in 2014 where someone mistook her for Lorde and how it affected her. “When ‘Royals’ came out, I was super jealous of the success that that song got, and that [Lorde] got. You piece all this stuff together in your brain, like: ‘She was into my music. She had big hair; I had big hair. She wore black lipstick; I once wore black lipstick,’” she said. “You create these parallels and think, ‘Well, that could have been me.’ But it couldn’t have because we’re completely different people.”
