You Can Lay in Trevor Gorji’s Oversized Birkin Bag
Taking almost two years to make.
Hermès’ Birkin bag has become a cultural phenomenon. A totem of exclusivity and handmade craftsmanship, the bag has been the ultra-status symbol of the wealthy, rich and famous since its creation in 1984. Even among those individuals who tote the luxury item, there are rare editions that even the ultra-famous covet. In its popularity that bag has been subjected to several dupes and works of cultural art (just think about Mason Rothschild’s MetaBirkin NFTs). Now artist Trevor Gorji is joining the fun with his oversized Birkin bag.
Even though there have been Birkin-inspired creations before, Trevor Gorji’s takes the cake. Instead of just crafting a regular run-of-the-mill Birkin, the Fugazi founder oversized it to an incredibly exaggerated degree. Although you can carry the bag with its super large straps, it might be rather difficult because of its size. But if you get tired, you can just lay in it. Yes, the bag is that big.
Appearing in the French luxury house’s signature orange hue, the bag is complete with the Birkin’s standout metal hardware and foldover flap. Instead of reading “Hermès Paris Made in France” the bag says “Trévor Gorji Made in China” in gold lettering. The bag took almost two years to create and to show it off, Gorji took to the New York City streets to show it off and posted a few pictures to Instagram.
