Highlights From Phillips’ Upcoming New York Watch Auction: X
Featuring rare and important timepieces from the likes of F.P. Journe, Hajime Asaoke and Philippe Dufour.
In June, Phillips in Association with Bacs & Russo will be auctioning a selection of rare and important timepieces from the likes of Philippe Dufour, F.P. Journe, Hajime Asaoka, Rolex and Patek Philippe in The New York Watch Auction: X.
The lot includes a rare and never-been-seen-in-public Philippe Dufour Duality in 18k white gold, circa 1999 with an estimated sale of $800,000 – $1,600,000 USD. Boasting a tonal appearance, the reference stars a second lacquered dial, handset and is equipped with a dual-escapement — a challenging feature to implement into a wristwatch movement, as it required the technical difficulty in sizing the the differential mechanism into the mere size of a matchstick head.
Another noteworthy highlight from the lot is the Prototype Tourbillon PURA from Hajime Asaoka, who is considered the most important independent watchmaker in Japan today. Housed in a slim stainless steel build, the timepiece is fitted with the sleek black lacquered dial, while almost half the watch face is opened up to showcase its tourbillon complication. This unique and highly important reference is a display of Asaoka’s pursuit for the purity of the tourbillon and is estimated to fetch between $120,000 – $240,000 USD
Other highlighted timepieces from the lot include a Rolex Paul Newman Daytona “John Player Special, a striking F.P. Journe Centigraphe Souverain “F,” a stainless steel Ref. 5004A as well as an open-face pocket watch from Patek Philippe.
The aforementioned timepieces will be available for preview in a global highlights tour across London, Singapore, Geneva, Los Angeles and Hong Kong from now till May 25. The New York Watch Auction: X will take place in Phillips’ New York location between June 8 – 9, 2024. Visit the auction’s special webpage for more information on each of the highlighted timepieces.
