Following his surprise release of the new album Might Delete Later, J. Cole is making good on his promise to remove the Kendrick Lamar diss track, “7 Minute Drill” from all streaming platforms.

The official move comes just less than a week after he announced to the Dreamville Festival crowd that he regrets releasing the song, “I’m so proud of that project except for one part. One part of that sh*t makes me feel like that’s the lamest sh*t I ever did in my f*cking life.” He later gave Lamar his flowers, “Dreamville, y’all love Kendrick Lamar? As do I. I want to come up here and publicly say that was the lamest and goofiest sh*t…it made me feel like 10 years ago when I was moving incorrectly.”

It seems that the album title was a foreshadow to the song. When he first announced that he would take the track off streaming platforms, it was met with polarizing views from fans with some commending the rapper and others claiming that hip-hop thrives on competition. While shots were initially fired by Lamar on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That” for taking issue with Cole’s “First Person Shooter” duet with Drake, it seems like the artists are entangled in a web of drama. The plot thickened when Cole made a surprise appearance on Future and Metro Boomin’s second album We Still Don’t Trust You, surprising and confusing fans even further on their relationship with one another. Drake nor Lamar have said anything about the alleged view so far.
