Bredaquaranta Unveils TOTEM by Mario Bellini for Brionvega at Milan Design Week
A limited edition piece that transforms from a sleek cube into a full-fledged stereo.
The latest edition of Mario Bellini’s Totem, unveiled by Bredaquaranta exclusively for Brionvega, redefines the intersection of design and sound technology. First introduced in 1971, Bellini’s Totem is a manifesto of minimalist design and a nod to the fundamental geometric shapes that underpin our physical world. Now available in “Ruby Red”, “Cobalt Blue”, and “Silver”, this design not only captivates visually but also symbolizes the totemic elements of fire, water, and air.
The genius of Bellini’s design lies in the Totem’s modular nature. Initially appearing as a compact cube, it unfolds to reveal its complex functionality. Each section of the cube is a component of a high-fidelity sound system, comprising two loudspeakers, a stereo module, a radio and a record player. This design not only challenges the conventional form of audio equipment but also enhances the auditory experience, allowing sound to fill the space in a more organic and immersive way.
Scheduled for a grand showcase during Milan Design Week from April 15 to 21 at the Bredaquaranta showroom, the Totem represents a confluence of art, design, and technology. A special cocktail event on April 16 at 6:00 p.m. CET offers visitors an intimate experience with this exclusive launch, showcasing how the Totem stands as a piece of living art, embodying the philosophy that design should not only be seen but felt and heard.
