WILLOW Heads Into Nature for New Single and Video “symptom of life”
Following the recent release of “alone,” the singer is continuously evolving her sound.
WILLOW is a breath of fresh air for their music industry. Many artists strive to develop their sound with each new project but few truly evolve like WILLOW.
The singer has returned with a new song entitled “symptom of life,” which sounds markedly different from the hard rock sound of 2022’s <COPINGMECHANISM> and the chaotic pop punk of 2021’s lately i feel EVERYTHING.
Genre wise, “symptom of life” dips into a slower, dreamy indie. The lyricism of the track is introspective as always, but even more poetic than her previous eras in WILLOW’s discography.
“Pushing and peeling myself out of my disguise / Looking at you now I am wondering who am I/ If I could try to take you back I couldn’t define / feeling / absence of time / knowing,” she sings.
The shift can perhaps be attributed to a greater change in her perspective, WILLOW told Rolling Stone in a November interview, teasing the forthcoming album.
“During that time, emotionally, I was going through so much. There was so much anger,” she said. “There was so much resentment. There was so much need to just express myself. And those two albums helped me get it out. For I was almost never sober in the studio. And for this new album, I was sober for every single recording session…
“I feel like my mind state was extremely different. There was so much more gratitude, so much more resonance with myself, and so much more coming back to my roots with these new songs that are coming out.”
WILLOW’s “symptom of life” arrived with a self-directed visual. Watch the video above and stream the track everywhere now.
