Total Luxury Spa x Whitney Museum Is 'Even Better Than The Real Thing'

For the Whitney Museum 2024 Biennial, the New York City American art museum tapped Los Angeles-based streetwear outfitter Total Luxury Spa to curate a capsule that takes the museum’s 81st Biennial theme to a new, more tangible level.

This year’s Biennial is titled Even Better Than The Real Thing, and gathers 71 artists who “explore the permeability of the relationships between mind and body, the fluidity of identity, and the growing precariousness of the natural and constructed worlds around us.”

Total Luxury Spa uses its graphic-driven approach to fashion to do just that. For this commemorative, collaborative capsule, Total Luxury Spa whipped up a graphic hoodie and two graphic tees, each of which offers an abstract interpretation of the exhibition’s subject matter.

The hoodie lists the participating artists’ names in blue down each sleeve as well as on the back of the silhouette underneath a large blue jewel. As for the t-shirts, the long sleeve style reads “Even Better Than The Real Thing” down one sleeve with the artists’ names printed on the back; the short sleeve style features Total Luxury Spa branding on the front and reads “Even Better Than The Real Thing” in big lettering on the back.

“Aligned with the themes of the Biennial, the styles explore ideas of “the real” – nature, process, digitization, artifice, hyperrealism – a myriad of subjectivity in an ever-evolving cultural landscape,” the museum explained in a press release. The Whitney Museum is set to drop two more collaborative Biennial merch capsules after this initial offering.
