Filson Marks Tin Cruiser 110th Anniversary with 110 Limited-Edition Pieces
The brand’s milestone year also sees the introduction of a new womenswear range.

Filson has grown to become intrinsic to American heritage with its workwear garments outfitting Yukon explorers, raincoats made for mariners, and an assortment of flannel shirts for miners. Now, the Seattle-born label looks back at one of its most iconic pieces: the Tin Cloth Cruiser.
Making its debut appearance in 1898, the durable shirt-style jacket was crafted for Robert McFadden, a prospector adventuring to the Klondike. As it began to catch the attention of others on a similar expedition, the jacket was patented in 1914 and sold to the general public. Early versions of the jacket were initially crafted from waxed cotton fabric and later swapped out for an oil finish wax treatment in the ‘90s as the brand continually evolved the design with updated material innovations.
With 2024 marking the garment’s 110th anniversary, Filson pays homage to its legacy by releasing 110 limited-edition iterations. Revisiting its extensive archives, the brand recreates some of its most sought-after Tin Cloth Cruiser jackets for the upcoming drop including shortcut silhouettes in a timeless Dark Tan as well as flannel-crafted versions in bold red, black, and white color pairings.
As well as the jacket’s anniversary, this year also signals the introduction of the brand’s first women’s collection. Its move into the women’s sector sees Filson continue to rethink its signature aesthetics, tailoring styles, and silhouettes to the contemporary womenswear wardrobe.
The debut offering brings forth a complete collection inspired by the spirit of adventure. Nods to its heritage see heavyweight wool jackets play the starring focus in the range as they emulate the iconic flannel shirt where the outerwear pieces are woven with an eclectic array of checkered patterns and muted color palettes that are then paired with contrasting collars made of corduroy or faux fur.
Designed to be layered with the bold horse-patterned jumpers and zip-up cardigans, Filson also presents a light-wash denim shirt embroidered with an eagle and raccoon to emphasize the Wild West feel. This shirt, along with other mid-layers in the range, boasts a lightweight feel for everyday wear. Similar to the menswear line that launched last year the collection’s tailored slacks and slouchy denim jeans propose a number of versatile styling options whilst rounding off the classic western look.
