Advisory Board Crystals SS24 Wants You to Think Critically
Designers Remington Guest and Heather Haber take an abstract look at “today,” with thought-provoking lettering, illustrative graphics and collegiate style tropes.

Advisory Board Crystals‘ Spring/Summer 2024 collection is for the intellectual fashionphile. Titled “Critical Thinking 2,” building on the brand’s initial “Critical Thinking” T-shirt capsule in 2020, the collection offers commentary on “today,” but it’s ultimately up to you to decide what the brand is trying to say. One rule: “say no to passive thinking,” one sweatshirt asks.
“Are we commenting on what you think we’re commenting on? That’s for you to decide,” designers (and Uber Pool riders-turned-lovers) Remington Guest and Heather Haber wrote in their collection notes. “The current viewer of the ‘work’ defines the meaning according to what they need from it. It continues with each subsequent viewer. You see it on our page, someone sees it on you when you’re wearing it and so on. We add context, meaning, and guidance but ultimately the true meaning is amorphous and dynamic.”
In fashion, their manifesto translates as such: varsity jackets are decorated with ABC patches, while windbreakers boast a made-up “ABC TRACK” team; fuzzy hoodies tout realistic depictions of tortoises, and “Critical Thinking” hoodies center starry mushrooms. Chalkboard graphics encapsulate another hooded jacket, and “Logical Extreme” jerseys find ABC’s “Institute of Arts & Sciences” crest emblazoned across their backs. If there was a real Advisory Boards Crystals university, these are the star athletes, preppy jocks, stylish nerds and hippie kids that would show up to class.
Cardigans are collection mainstays: some are finished with a bleached wash, while others read “Senior” across the shoulders in block lettering, nodding directly to the line’s collegiate manifesto. Rugby shirts, in orange, pink and brown tones, host “Sacred” cursive writing, while dual-zipper jackets have a radical message: “R.I.P. Society.” Slim blazers, monotone button-downs and plaid shorts drive home the academic aesthetic, while trippy hoodies and furry trousers might most often be sported by those with lackluster attendance records.
“We know this collection is vastly important for those in our community right now,” Guest and Haber said. “It’s time to think critically.”
