Following KAWS‘ successful exhibition at Toronto’s Art Gallery of Ontario last summer, where the artist made his Canadian museum debut by bringing KAWS: Family to the city, the AGO is now launching a book to commemorate the exhibit.

KAWS: FAMILY arrives as a 156-page book fully illustrated to celebrate the exhibition that occurred last summer. The book includes an essay from Julian Cox, the AGO Deputy Director and Chief Curator who curated the exhibition, as well as an interview with Jim Shedden, Curator, Special Projects and Director, Publications. The book not only includes all of KAWS’ pieces exhibited at the AGO — including the GONE (2020), FAMILY (2021) piece, a painted bronze sculpture featuring COMPANION and a a bulbous figure named CHUM and a fur-covered character named BFF, posed together in the style of a studio portrait — the book will also feature over 60 artworks from the past two decades by the artist, installation photographs and an interview with KAWS himself. The book aims to new insights into KAWS’ influences, creative process and impact.

Alongside the book launch, AGO is hosting a one-night only book signing with KAWS. Tickets will be available in person only, beginning at noon on Friday, March 1. Those interested can shop the book on shopAGO and those in Toronto who are interested in the book signing can do so find more information here.
