AMBUSH Turns Its Attention To Prep for FW24
Class is in session, again.
With AMBUSH, the class is in session again! Last season for SS24, Yoon Ahn’s label took it to the classroom to impart class-ready styles that still retained the brand’s street-savvy core. But the looks weren’t so cut and dry. The wardrobe harbored an edgier personality that was able to strut down the sidewalk just as much as it was fit for a lesson plan. In past years, Ahn has taken on completely different themes each season, so it’s surprising to see the designer spend another year in the schoolhouse for the Fall/Winter 2024 season. But with her, it’s always fresh, so this time she leaned into quintessentially preppy styles.
We’re all familiar with the hallmarks of preppy style: cable knits, button-down tops, monogram sweaters, crest-emblazoned blazers, pleated skirts, varsity jackets, rugby polos and houndstooth fabrics. So to execute the style in its truest fashion, these many pieces are in tow. But much to Ahn’s creative affinity, the pieces are updated with her contemporary elements like oversized proportions, hybridized constructions, asymmetrical detailing and cropped details.
What Ahn also manages to achieve is the right balance of school and sporty style notes, which are both key pillars of a true prep wardrobe. With AMBUSH’s vision, one student may don an oversized v-neck sweater with the AMBUSH “A” paired with an unbalanced skirt and ruched tube socks. Another might show up with a track jacket, multi-patch hooded zip-up and an oversized nylon bomber paired with relaxed jeans. But both students are definitely a part of the AMBUSH school or university for that matter – given the brand’s multi-season school outlook.
