Update: April is nearly here and so is the return of the mash-up “What The” colorway of the Nike Kobe 8 Protro. First released in 2013, the pair, which combines just under 30 Kobe 8 colorways, returns in its original vibrant composition. As noted in our previous discussions below, this includes the left shoe prominently featuring blue, purple, and red while the right shoe favors orange, yellow, and green. Release remains set to take place on April 13 via Nike SNKRS and select retailers at a price of $190 USD. For more info about the launch, revisit our previous discussions below.

Update: It’s been half a year since word of the Nike Kobe 8 “What The” returning in 2025 first hit the net. Now, we finally have a first look at the sneaker, confirming that it will be replicating the vibrant 2013 colorway after all. An early on-foot preview of the shoe notes its orange, teal, blue and purple color scheme as the shoe is now expected to drop on April 13 of 2025 via Nike SNKRS and select retailers at a starting price of $190 USD.

Original Story: Since reintroducing the Nike Kobe line last year, Nike Basketball has kept the Kobe 8 Protro in rotation as one of its key offerings. While a bevy of team-oriented colorways are expected to land on shelves later this year, a new rumor from brandon1an regarding the return of the “What The” treatment indicates that that the brand has plenty of adventures looks to come as well.

In 2013, Kobe Bryant and Nike assembled the Nike Kobe 8 System Premium “What The Kobe” — a mash-up of just under 30 Kobe 8 colorways — which last year earned a spot in our round-up of the best Nike “What The” releases of all time. Now, it’s said to be returning as a summer 2025 release. While it’s currently unknown if this will be a recreation of the 2013 pair or an entirely-new take on the theme, it’s sure to draw attention as one of the line’s biggest releases of next year.

At the time of writing, Nike has not confirmed whether or not a “What The” version of the Kobe 8 Protro will be arriving next year. Stay tuned for updates, including a first look at the rumored pair, as it is currently slated to launch next summer via Nike SNKRS and select retailers around the $190 USD price point.
