There’s a new Karate Kid in town and Mr. Han is ready to put him to work. Sony Pictures has released the official trailer for Karate Kid: Legends, ushering a new era fo the martial arts franchise.

Premiering next spring, the film brings back the original Karate Kid star, Ralph Macchio. He played Daniel LaRusso in the original 1984 Karate Kid film. Macchio stars alongside Jackie Chan who played Mr. Han in the 2010 remake starring Jaden Smith. American Born Chinese star Ben Wang will be playing the student Li Fong, the latest martial arts protege to Daniel and Mr. Han.

The official logline of the film reads, “After a family tragedy, kung fu prodigy Li Fong is uprooted from his home in Beijing and forced to move to New York City with his mother. Li struggles to let go of his past as he tries to fit in with his new classmates, and although he doesn’t want to fight, trouble seems to find him everywhere. When a new friend needs his help, Li enters a karate competition — but his skills alone aren’t enough. Li’s kung fu teacher Mr. Han enlists original Karate Kid Daniel LaRusso for help, and Li learns a new way to fight, merging their two styles into one for the ultimate martial arts showdown.” The official trailer offers hints at how Macchio and Chan’s characters are connected. Daniel can be heard asking Mr. Han, “You knew Mr. Miyagi?” Han responds in the trailer, “I did not come here for Sensei Miyagi. I came here for you.”
