Diesel x Lee Meets in the Middle To Rework Unsold Stock Into Hybrid Jeans

Creativity and sustainability come together with Lee in the front, and Diesel in the back—and vice-versa.

The Diesel Loves Lee collection is back with a medium stone wash style, extending the collaborative line co-designed by the global denim competitors. Combining their unsold stock into rugged hybrid jeans, Diesel and Lee build upon their pre-existing styles to address the industry-wide issue of overproduction.

The new drop features two genderless straight-leg silhouettes and two women’s bootcut jeans made completely from unsold stone wash pairs from each brand’s stock. Rather than concealing the marks of their fusion, each style boasts its raw-edged hems proudly, along with intentionally mismatched waistlines to emphasize the reworked aesthetic quality.

Given that Lee is one of the early American denim brands with more than 130 years under its belt, and that Diesel–established in 1978–is historically connected to its postmodern cultural sensibilities and European roots, the collaboration may seem like an odd fit to some. Furthermore, it’s still somewhat rare to find competitors from the same category sharing space together. For example, an adidas and Nike product tie-up still sounds like a far-flung dream.

However, with more eyes on the fashion industry’s production practices and their wider impact on the environment, brands are increasingly challenged to find avenues towards newness without exacerbating these problems. Diesel and Lee’s innovative approach widens the scope of solutions by challenging brands to transcend competitive approaches to sustainability and instead work together to share resources and craft creative solutions.
