Best New Tracks: Young Thug, Bad Bunny, Tyler, The Creator and More
Dive into the weekend with these new music projects.
As the week in music comes to a close, Hypebeast has rounded up the best projects for the latest installment of Best New Tracks.
This week’s lineup is led by the long-awaited official streaming releases of both Slime Season and Slime Season 2, Young Thug‘s seventh and eighth self-produced mixtapes that originally dropped at the end of 2015.
Longform releases also come from Kodak Black and Ice Spice, while Tyler, the Creator dropped a standout freestyle over Kendrick Lamar’s “hey now” and Homixide Gang, Bad Bunny, Rex Orange County, Hit-Boy and all delivered new singles.
Young Thug – Slime Season
In a major moment for hip-hop fans, Young Thug (finally) moved his Slime Season mixtape over to DSPs. The acclaimed 18-track mixtape – which he initially dropped in September of 2015 – features notable offerings “Best Friend,” “No Way” and “Mine” and also sees contributions from Lil Wayne, Rich Gang, Migos, Peewee Longway, Young Ralph and Gucci Mane.

Young Thug – Slime Season 2
Thugger actually dropped Slime Season 2 on streaming a few hours before its predecessor. The second in the rapper’s Slime Season mixtape series, the sophomore chapter – which initially dropped in October 2015 – comes equipped with 18 tracks plus an additional three bonus tracks. Features come from Lil Uzi Vert on “Big Racks,” with Trouble, Shad da God, Yak Gotti, Rich Homie Quan and Birdman appearing elsewhere.

Kodak Black – Gift For The Streets
Marking his third full-length project in the past two months, Kodak Black unveiled the surprise 12-track Gift For The Streets LP on Christmas Day.

Tyler, The Creator – “THAT GUY”
Tyler, The Creator surprised us with a Christmas Day freestyle over Kendrick Lamar’s GNX cut “hey now.” Entitled “THAT GUY,” Tyler’s roughly three-minute rendition of Lamar’s hit song marks his first post-CHROMAKOPIA release. At the time of writing, the song has not yet made its way over to streaming services, but fear not, Tyler (who “really is that guy”) did unveil a self-directed music video to accompany the track.
Rex Orange County – ”Drama”
Rex Orange County has released a new single entitled “Drama,” which indicates his first drop since his fifth studio album, The Alexander Technique which landed back in September.

Ice Spice –Y2K!: I’m Just A Girl (Deluxe)
Ice Spice made her long-form studio debut earlier this summer with the 10-track Y2K! However, the rapper has breathed some more life into the somewhat concise album in its deluxe edition dubbed Y2K!: I’m Just A Girl (Deluxe). The rapper tacks on five new tracks to the top of the album, including features from NLE Choppa and DaBaby on “Hannah Montana” and Bb trickz on “BB Belt (Remix).”

Homixide Gang – “Free Agents”
Homixide Gang has presented its first single since the release of their third studio album i5u5we5 back in May. Bolstered by production from Pi’erre Bourne, “Free Agents” is, in its current state, a YouTube-exclusive track and clocks in at just over three minutes long. “Free Agents” also comes equipped with a music video with cameos from fellow Opium members Ken Carson and Destroy Lonely.
Bad Bunny – “PIToRRO DE COCO”
Not only did Bad Bunny – in true Bad Bunny form – announce his next studio LP the day after Christmas, but he also officially unveiled the first single lifted from the album. Dubbed “PIToRRO DE COCO,” the track is slated to land as the thirteenth offering on the imminent DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS album, which drops everywhere on January 5.

Hit-Boy – ”Letter to My Mentors”
Hit-Boy has offered up a homage to all of those who have impacted him along the way. Entitled “Letter to My Mentors,” the roughly three-minute self-produced track hears the rapper pay his respects, a sentiment also reflected in the cut’s accompanying music video.
