Lichen Expands Its In-House Lighting Range with New Pitch Pendant Lamp
The design incubator and shop’s first experiment with textile-focused lighting.
Ridgewood, Queens-based Lichen boasts an impressive array of in-house lighting options — ranging from its resin-and-steel “Puddle Sconce” to smaller sconce options made out of wood or metal — and now that offering has been increased by one with the Pitch Pendant Lamp.
The Pitch Pendant Lamp was created through the collaborative effort of three designers: Onea Clare, Aidan Elias and Alvaro Ucha Rodriguez. Combining textiles, engineering and industrial design, it’s a lighting option, that in Elias’ words, “can be carried from space to space, set up with ease to illuminate any situation.”
This flexibility comes from the Pitch Pendant Lamp’s fiberglass rod frame, metal accents and ripstop nylon shroud, together forming a shape that draws inspiration from camping tents, studio lighting and garden structures while offering a soft, warm light. “We ultimately found ourselves drawn to the challenge of creating a self-assemblable ceiling fixture,” notes Elias.
If you’re looking to add the Pitch Pendant Lamp to your home, office, or wherever else your life requires a little extra illumination, it’s available for $399 USD via the Lichen webstore and studio (564 Woodward Ave, Ridgewood, NY, 11385). It measures 36”L x 31”W x 10”H and has a bulb and a 20-foot cord. The included cord can be cut by an electrician as well if you’re interested in hardwiring it into an existing wall fixture.
