Tyler, the Creator Taps Ayo Edebiri for "NOID" Visual
The second look into ‘Chromakopia.’
Tyler, the Creator has unveiled another look at his imminent Chromakopia project. Dropping on October 28 – which also marks Frank Ocean‘s birthday – Chromakopia’s revealed tracks thus far consist of “St. Chroma,” and the newly released “NOID.”
Like “St. Chroma,” “NOID” has not yet made its way over to streaming services yet and is solely available on YouTube. The visual follows suit of “St. Chroma,” featuring the musician as the main character, donning this album’s uniform of a face mask and horned haircut. Ayo Edebiri also stars in the video, playing a crazed fan who causes Tyler’s paranoia to transpire. Beginning in black and white, the visual kicks into color toward the end as the backing vocals kick in.
As reflected in the video’s storyline, “NOID,” sonically, also feels like anxiety, backed by building, harsh guitars and layered horns. Tyler samples Zambian musician, Paul Ngozi throughout the cut, hopping in to deliver just one verse in the middle of the roughly three-minute offering.
Tyler points to his feelings of paranoia in the lyrics, asserting “I loop around the block, eyes glued to the rearview / Rather double back than regret hearin’, ‘Pew, pew’ / Never trust a b*tch, if you good, they can trap you / So just strap it up ‘fore they f*ck around and strap you, b*tch.”
