Spotify Can Now Automatically Curate a Playlist for Airplane Mode
A new tool to lend a hand when you forget to download your music.
Spotify has a fix for the pesky issue of hopping on a flight but only realizing that you forgot to download your music once you’re in the air. The feature is called Offline Backup and when turned on, automatically creates and downloads a playlist for offline use.
Offline Backup takes a user’s queued and recently streamed songs and compiles them into a playlist. The app exclusively uses tracks that are already stored on the user’s device as part of their cache – even if the songs haven’t been downloaded.
Once created, users are able to sort through their Offline Backup playlist and sort music by feeling or genre. The playlist also continuously evolves to include the user’s most recently streamed tracks, reflecting their changing tastes.
Offline Backup rolled out in beta last year and is now available globally to Spotify Premium subscribers.
