Watch Skepta and Flo Milli Unite for "Why Lie" Video

A sonic departure for the UK rap legend featuring one of the most prolific young voices to rise from the South.

UK-rapper Skepta has crossed the pond to join forces with Alabama-based Flo Milli on a new track. “Why Lie (feat. Flo Milli)” dropped at midnight this Friday, accompanied by a music video that dropped early in the day.

The track is a departure from Skepta’s signature sound, opting for a slower-paced melodic flow over an old school beat. The track bounces between the flows of the two artists in a steamy and emotional back-and-forth narrative, while the production rides smoothly over a sticky bass line. With lines like “Why would I lie to that boy?
If he love me enough, he gon’ lie to hisself” Flo Milli delivers a pared-back sultry tone, fit for the vibe of the song. Set in neither Alabama nor London, the video treatment opens with the two relaxing on the stoop of a Brownstone, and later follows them up to an apartment where things get wavy with special effects.

In recent years, the rapper has showcased major versatility appearing on a spectrum of features and remixes across demographics. While updates on Skepta’s next LP are sparse, he’s ramped up his work with the return of his MAINS label at London Fashion Week and will also be the subject of a forthcoming documentary.

“Why Lie” is available to stream everywhere now and the full video can be viewed above. Stay tuned to Hypebeast for more music news.
