Screen Gems and PlayStation Productions are developing a feature film adaptation of the popular 2015 horror video game, Until Dawn.

According to The Hollywood Reporterthe upcoming adaptation will be directed by Shazam! and Lights Out’s David F. Sandberg while Gary Dauberman, known for his screenwriting work on the It, Annabelle and The Nun franchises, will work off a script initially written by Blair Butler. Sandberg and Dauberman will also be producing alongside Lotta Losten, Roy Lee, Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan.

Until Dawn was developed by Supermassive Games as an interactive horror video game for the PlayStation 4. It tells the story of eight friends who return to the isolated Blackwood Mountain lodge of the Washingtons a year after Hannah Washington and her twin, Beth, go missing following a mean-spirited prank. The twins’ brother, Josh, gather the same group from the year before in honor of his sisters, however the dynamic of the group has changed drastically due to both the death of the sisters and a change in their own intimate relationships. The friends are hunted by an unknown entity as the game progresses, and the player must control the characters and make decisions that can cause a domino effect and determine whether the friends live or die.

Providing motion capture and voice acting for the characters were major Hollywood names such as Rami Malek and Hayden Panettiere, as well as Ella Lentini, Larry Fessenden, Noah Fleiss, Galadriel Stineman, Nichole Sakura, Jordan Fisher, Brett Dalton and Meaghan Martin.
