John Boyega is slated to be the star lead in the upcoming The Book of Eli prequel series. According to Deadline actor is also set to executive produce the TV series that predates the 2010 post-apocalyptic action film that originally starred Denzel Washington.

In the upcoming series, Boyega plays a younger version of Washington’s Eli. The original film took place 30 years after a nuclear catastrophe caused an ecocide. Revolving around Eli, who was considered a nomad, he fights his way across a post-apocalyptic America all while protecting the sacred book that holds the secrets to humanity’s salvations. The details of the series are still kept under wraps but it is said to be set 30 years prior to the events of the film. This would put the timeline before the nuclear event or possibly its imediate aftermath.

The 2010 film deal with Warner Bros. does not include the TV prequel. This TV series project marks one of biggest and most high-profile and star-driven IP-based packages since the strikes. The film garnered great success at the box office when it first released, hitting $157.1 million USD worldwide on an $80 million USD budget. It remains to be seen when this will release.
