Volkswagen has unveiled its vision for the ID.X Performance concept car, something it describes as an all-electric sports limousine. The upper mid-sized class vehicle features a powerful all-wheel drive, performance-oriented suspension and a dynamic appearance.

Based on the new ID.7, the ID.X Performance showcases the possibilities of Volkswagen’s modular electric drive platform (MEB) by combining sporty performance with the elegant lines of a limousine, according to the automaker.

The vehicle is powered by a dual-motor drive with 411 kW (558 PS) and a boost function, supplied by a drive battery that enables high continuous power output and short charging times with a capacity of up to 200 kW. The exterior features sporty elements like a carbon front splitter and rear diffuser, 20-inch sports alloy wheels and a carbon wing at the rear for increased downforce. Inside the cabin, carbon bucket seats and red accents emphasize the sporty characteristics of the high-performance electric concept vehicle.

Speaking to the car’s electric drive platform, Andreas Reckewerth, Head of Technology Office MEB shared “The MEB offers many fantastic possibilities for approaching vehicle development with a great deal of creativity. It was clear to us that we wanted to base our new show car on the ID.7 and that we would focus on enhancing the performance. In this way we can show what is possible.”

While largely still a concept with no official release date announced at the time of writing, enthusiasts can likely expect to see performance-driven all-electric vehicles from Volkswagen in the near future.
