Since opening the doors of its flagship retail shop in 1989, UNION Los Angeles has posited itself at the forefront of contemporary streetwear. While the brand has continuously evolved to set trends within the culture, the latest collection from UNION LA pays homage to the classic pieces that define Southern California style.

Helmed by Founder and Creative Director Chris Gibbs, the Fall 2023 lineup presents a bright, colorful assortment of garments, each designed to add a subtle flair to basic pieces and engineered for a unisex fit.

Leading the collection is Gibbs’ favorite: the Whetley Cardigan. Inspired by his Canadian background, the green, heavyweight cardigan features striping around the cuffs and bottom of the sweater and comes adorned with back panels reminiscent of blankets created by his own grandmother. It also serves as a “modern take on a traditional First Nations Cowichan knit sweater,” according to the brand.

Another standout from the lineup is the Dunbar Parka, which reimagines the Swedish Army Snow Parka, a traditionally bulky jacket with square front pockets. UNION LA retains the original silhouette, but swaps in a jersey-like Japanese fabric for a clean storm breaker that can be layered over a sweater or hoodie.

Other selections in the Fall 2023 collection include a reworked version of the OG UNION branded hoodie, the silk-lined Giovanni Shirt and more. Gibbs creative directed the collection’s campaign and artistic direction by Melchizedek Chan and styling by Sierra Rena. Photographs were captured by Chizam Ojukwo in a Brooklyn brownstone apartment.

The UNION Los Angeles Fall 2023 will release on August 17 at 9 a.m. PT in stores and on the brand’s website.

In other fashion news, BEAMS PLUS FW23 is where color and prints reign.
