SANKUANZ SS24 "CHAPTER 4 GIANTESS" Is a Collection Comprised of Contrasts
Hard graphics contradict soft sartorial nods for a diverse genderless presentation.
Shangguan Zhe‘s SANKUANZ does not adhere to expectations. Much like a Giantess, Spring/Summer 2024 is a collection with many faces and sides; not one language is more powerful than the other, instead, they work in harmony to create a collection that is complex, multidimensional, and ultimately comments on the “female strength.”
The collection, titled “CHAPTER 4 GIANTESS,” enlists the artist Amanda Ba to depict the Giantess and Pitbull dogs across fabric manipulation and techniques such as print on mesh and laser-printed denim. It’s all about softness and hardness clashing and finding a middle ground, explored with items like the “Love and Peace” T-shirt and plushie accessories that contradict the heavy and hard-wash effect treated on the tee and pants. Luxe silks craft flowing shirts and skirts, but prints are mythical and dark in their nature, enhanced in devilish shades of red and firey orange.
Likewise, cutesy crop tops feature rugged Pitbulls on them, while loose low-rise jeans are washed-out, dirtied, and torn on the cuff, again giving a sense of a vintage appearance that’s had a life before, but is softening up at the same time for its new owner. Beauty and horror combine in the form of metal mesh masks, bringing a surreal juxtaposition to a collection that also includes Cherry Bomb spike-covered bags, dagger-embellished collars on shirts, and hardcore Classic Dagger Bags now arriving in soft, sumptuous satin.
