Herman Miller Unveils the Luva Modular Sofa Group and Cyclade Tables
Designed by Gabriel Tan.

Herman Miller just unveiled Gabriel Tan’s two furniture offerings that explored organic, modular design: the Luva Modular Sofa Group and Cyclade Tables. It was during the winter lockdown when Singaporean designer, Gabriel Tan first created the early drafts of the two series. He had just moved to Portugal then, and the designs are a reflection of his mentality, as well as his longing for comfort.
The Luva Modular Sofa draws inspiration from the rolled tops of Japanese futons, as well as the soft grip and padded support of boxing gloves. The resulting sofa boasts a visual “soft” appearance but all without compromising versatility and comfort. In its closed “fist” form, the sofa function as a supported seat. Meanwhile, it also assumes a much more relaxed and lounge-ready form when the sofa is expanded.
Offered as an arrangement of three, the Cyclade Tables draw influences from the form of Pangea, while the sculptural forms serve as a tribute to Isamu Noguchi’s distinctive style. The pieces explore the intriguing and dramatic nature of the supercontinent’s geological shifts, while also serving as a poetic expression that plays on its themes of unification and separation.
Take a closer look at the gallery above. Priced from $795 – $10,365 USD, the aforementioned pieces will be available for purchase online and in stores via Herman Miller. For more details regarding availability and delivery, head over to Herman Miller’s official website.
