Disney+ To Release 20 New Asian Titles Over the Next Year
Including the ‘BTS Monuments: Beyond The Star’ docuseries, the Korean drama series ‘Moving’ and more.
Over the course of the next year, Disney+ plans to add a 20-part slate of films and series from East Asia, spanning a variety of genres and eras, to its platform.
The streamer has assembled a slew of riveting content, sourced from Japan and Korea, that will release throughout the second half of 2023 and early 2024. Among them, Korean drama series, Moving, produced by webtoon giant Kang Full, will lead the launch, hitting the streaming service on August 9. Detective drama The Worst of Evil, another Korean-based series that stars Ji Changwook, Squid Game‘s Wi Hajun and Lim Semi, will follow.
From Japan, Tokyo Revengers: Tenjiku Arc will offer the next chapter in the beloved anime series, and Dragons of Wonderhatch, a “hybrid story” that amalgamates a live-action “real world” with anime, is set to launch on Disney+, too.
As part of its latest collaboration with Hybe, Disney+ will unveil BTS Monuments: Beyond The Star. The highly anticipated docu-series will give viewers an unfiltered look into the K-pop group‘s trajectory over the past nine years. The series is set to feature “unprecedented access to a vast library of music and footage,” according to a statement from Disney+.
Two other music-centric titles are set to hit the platform later this year: docu-series NCT 127: The Lost Boys and Korean drama Soundtrack #2. Other titles coming in 2023 include Japanese animes Synduality Noir and Phoenix: Eden17, Korean comedies Vigilante and Han River Police, and an ice show performance by notable Japanese ice-skater Yuzuru Hanyu.
In other entertainment news, Insidious: The Red Door dethroned Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny for the box office’s No. 1 spot.
