A Patek Philippe Wristwatch Owned by the Last Emperor of China Sets Three Records at Phillips
Sold for $6.2 million USD.
Yesterday, Phillips held The Imperial Patek Philippe Sale at its new Asia headquarters in Hong Kong. All 12 pieces that belonged to Aisin-Goro Puyi, the last Emperor of China were sold, totaling $6.6 million USD.
Leading the auction was a Patek Philippe Reference 96 Quantieme Lune, which sold at $6.2 million USD to a local collector after six minutes of bidding. Setting three records, the sale of Puyi’s timepiece is the highest result for any Ref. 96 Quantieme Lune ever sold, it’s also the highest of any wristwatch that was previously owned by Emperors, as well as the most valuable lot ever realized by Phillips Watches in Asia.
Thomas Perazzi, the Head of Watches for Phillips’ Asia region announced “We are proud of the enthusiastic response we have seen from collectors internationally, as the watch and artifacts toured across the globe and then which they attracted participants from 56 countries between the ages of 25 and 60 joining in this evening’s auction. We have also witnessed many collectors from different collecting categories such as Chinese paintings, ceramics and antiques who are new to Phillips vying for works offered in today’s sale.”
