With De Bethune’s newly unveiled DB28xs Starry Seas time-teller, it’s evident that innovation is at the core of the independent watchmaker. Depicting a starry sky, the blue titanium dial itself is outfitted with what the Maison claims as the “world’s first” random guilloché pattern. Just shy of 39mm in diameter, the newly-iterated watch arrives in a much smaller case size for De Bethune’s emblematic model. The case is crafted from polished grade 5 titanium and accompanied by an open caseback, complete with an alligator leather strap.

Despite significant downsizing, the piece still managed to upkeep the Maison’s distinctive aesthetics without compromising on its chronometric quality. Operating inside the time-teller is the DB2005 mechanical hand-wound movement, geared with a 6-day power reserve as ensured by its self-regulating twin barrel.

In creating the new timepiece, Denis Flageollet, the brand’s co-founder and master watchmaker explains, “For the creation of the DB28xs Starry Seas, the creative process that impelled me evokes the Japanese spirit of Wabi- Sabi, a Japanese concept that is virtually an art form and aims to bring individuals, objects and the environment into harmony.” Undoubtedly, key principles of the Wabi-Sabi concept also permeate the watch — from the beauty of imperfection that’s demonstrated on the dial, and understanding the beauty of modesty as well as simplicity through its new case size, to manifesting atypicality through the watch design.

Due to release soon, De Bethune’s DB28xs Starry Seas watch will retail for $90,000 USD. Visit the brand’s official website to inquire about availability.

In case you missed it, Phillips will be auctioning a Zenith Chronomaster Original Pink to raise breast cancer awareness.
