Xbox Debuts Limited-Edition Sustainable Controller Made Out of “Regrind” Plastics
Making use of defunct Xbox One controller parts.
As Earth Day nears, Xbox has created a new controller made out of sustainable materials. The Remix Edition Controller is constructed from recovered plastics “with one-third of it made from regrind and reclaimed materials.”
For those unfamiliar with the term “regrind,” Xbox defines it as the process of recycling controller parts dating back to the Xbox One generation. The parts are used to create a raw material that’s still durable. Other post-consumer recycled resins come from objects such as automotive headlights and water jugs.
The regrind materials are then mixed with the resin to achieve an earthy, green color. Each resulting part boasts its own unique markings and variations due to the recycling process.
Each controller has a patchwork colorway inspired by the Pacific Northwest Forest, consisting of dark green encasing with a bright green Xbox button and D-pad. The back case is a muted darker blue.
The controller also utilizes the Xbox Rechargeable Battery Pack, which boasts up to 30 hours of battery life and reaches full charge in four hours.
Retailing for $84.99 USD, Xbox’s sustainable Remix Edition Controller launches worldwide on April 18.
