The San Diego-based imprint was tasked to re-create the OG look and feel of MJ’s first signature shoe.

Thanks to the efforts of Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Chris Tucker, Viola Davis, Jason Bateman and the rest of the AIR movie cast, the story of Michael Jordan‘s epic journey to sign with Nike and start his own signature line has been re-told. And in the film, you’ll find a prop that was designed to recreate the look and feel of the iconic Air Jordan 1 Hi ‘85 “Chicago” colorway, and we’ve got a closer look at the pair.
Designed by San Diego-based company SD Custom Footwear, the kicks translate the exact elements of the six-time champion’s OG makeup. Smooth overlays are doused with Bulls-friendly red and accompanied by solid black laces, Swooshes, wings logos and collars. Toe boxes, quarter panels and tongues are fashioned with angelic finishes, the latter of which features a Nike-branded banner .
Down below is a video that SD Custom Footwear posted of them building out the shoes from scratch. They provide a behind-the-scenes look at piecing together the shoes’ various panels, taking a lighter to burn off the frayed edges and more. Peep a closer look at the shoes, and its various design stages in the gallery above.
