Grimes Offers 50% Royalties To AI-Generated Tracks That Use Her Voice
Providing the same deal as she would with any artist she collaborates with.

Grimes has shared her two cents about the rising use of AI in music, becoming one of the few artists to publicly approve of it as the technology becomes a hotly-debated topic.
She shared a screenshot on Twitter of an article touching on the recently-removed viral AI-generated track that utilized the voices of Drake and The Weeknd, offering a split in royalties if something similar was done to her voice. “I’ll split 50% royalties on any successful AI generated song that uses my voice. Same deal as I would with any artist i collab with,” Grimes announced. “Feel free to use my voice without penalty. I have no label and no legal bindings.”
She further stated that she is on board with the idea of being “fused w a machine and I like the idea of open sourcing all art and killing copyright,” adding in response to a fan that she is comfortable to be credited on the song either as a lead or featured artist. “…anything anyone wants. Im just curious what even happens and interested in being a Guinea pig.”
The issue of AI-generated songs have swept the music industry in recent months, with many making use of the technology to mimic the voices of musical artists. The Drake and The Weeknd track “Heart on My Sleeve” is the most recent viral offering, but was taken down from streaming services after their record label, Universal Music Group (UMG), publicly condemned the use of the technology for “infringing content.”
I think it’s cool to be fused w a machine and I like the idea of open sourcing all art and killing copyright

Elsewhere in music, Drake added 12 North American dates to his “It’s All a Blur” tour.
