Porsche and Daniel Arsham to Unveil NEBULA 928 at SXSW
Showcasing the retro-futuristic automotive in Austin for the first time.
Contemporary designer Daniel Arsham has teamed up with Porsche once again to create a retro-futuristic NEBULA 928 concept. A playful, funky, and fluid iteration of a reimagined 1978 Porsche 928, the project takes inspiration from the Y2K aesthetic and is set to be displayed for the first time at the Porsche X space at SXSW.
The artist gives the vintage Porsche model a futuristic identity, softening the edges of the original car to the features that define the more modern models. The car is finished with metallic exterior paint in Y2K purple while the interior opens up to reveal a matching complementary shade. The purple shades seen on the interior pay homage to the early 2000s, a stark contrast from the exterior hue. The steering wheel is constructed with aluminum and the shift knob features custom ByBorre wove fabric and purple Ultrasuede® and leather. The front and rear bumpers are also redesigned with the help of Khyzyl Saleem.
The rear bumper features a glowing LED branding, giving the “Nebula” text a futuristic typeface. Arsham’s studio logo is also subtly present throughout, including the light cages and the seats’ stitch graphics. The car blends the past, present and future and embodies Arsham’s time-traveling themes and concepts seen throughout his work. Check out the NEBULA 928 for the first time ever at the annual Austin, Texas SXSW festival hosted between March 10 and 14. The car will be at the Porsche X space at 400 Congress Ave.
