Skrillex Delivers Highly-Anticipated First LP in 9 Years, ‘Quest for Fire’
Featuring Fred again.., Swae Lee, Bobby Raps, Dylan Brady and more.
Skrillex has returned with his first record in nine years and a monumental sophomore album, Quest for Fire. Out today via Owsla and Atlantic Records, the project follows his breakthrough LP, 2014’s Recess.
In the near decade since his last album, the DJ has been hard at work on evolving his sound, pulling from various genres to build out a layered, psychedelic mutation of genres.
Listeners got a taste of the new Skrillex on some of the singles preceding the release. There was “Rumble” with Fred again.. and Flowdan and “Leave Me Like This” with Bobby Raps. Just the other day, he shared the Nai Barghouti-assisted “Xena.”
That only scratches the surface of some of the cult-favorite artists Skrillex has tapped for Quest for Fire. Also on the genre-spanning roster are Aluna, Eli Keszler, Pete Wentz, Starrah, Swae Lee, Noisia and 100 gecs’ Dylan Brady. There’s Four Tet, who he’s recently been performing live with, alongside Missy Elliott, Mr. Oizo, Porter Robinson and Bibi Bourelly.
In the build-up to the drop, Skrillex teamed up with Fred again.. and Four Tet for a series of surprise pop-up shows in New York City, which will culminate with an epic performance at Madison Square Garden tomorrow evening, February 18.
