O'Neill and BYBORRE Present New Sustainably-Focused Collaboration
Using 3D knitted fabric that is sourced from post-consumer plastic bottles.
California surf brand O’Neill has connected with Amsterdam-based textile studio BYBORRE for a limited-edition capsule that utilizes recycled materials and custom prints.
Through the use of BYBORRE’s bespoke production techniques, the collaboration presents an outdoor-inspired collection that presents an assemblage of clean prints across a series of co-ord sets, including clean-cut shorts and double-breasted jackets with sharp collars on the neckline. For example, BYBORRE has used circular 3D knitting machines that use recycled yarn — this has curated a selection of black and white graphics that are printed across the capsule’s lead garments.
Further fabrications come in the form of BYBORRE’s VALBY, another 3D knitted fabric that is sourced from post-consumer plastic bottles. Additionally, the bottle-crafted fabrics are also UV resistant, while they’re also crafted to be lightweight and breathable for the wearer.
Speaking about the new collection, Joffrey Delfgaauw, O’Neill’s Head of Buying and Design, said: “For over 70 years O’Neill has challenged the surf industry by pushing the technical boundaries and innovative design of the product. Together with BYBORRE, we used the same way of thinking to co-create an exclusive collection that represents both brands’ identities.”
