This season’s Milan Fashion Week has portrayed a new meaning behind modern Italian tailoring. This Fall/Winter 2023, showgoers showed off their best renditions of the aesthetic with dramatic textures and oversized silhouettes.

Contemporary Italian tailoring was paired with formal suiting, where many paid homage to the classic, oversized and leather blazers. It was a great lapel affair, with outerwear becoming the most prominent highlight amongst street style in Milan. There was great emphasis on paying homage to the brand shown at fashion week. Many showed support to Prada, wearing minimal, monochromatic pairings like a denim-on-denim chore jacket and jeans, while others quickly hopped on the D-train to Diesel and Glenn Martens with its Gen Z-scantily clad desigs.

Besides various leather jacket renditions to keep warm, including leather bombers, blazers, and typical biker jackets, long overcoats or textured puffer jackets were a popular outwear choice. Showgoers kept clean and simple silhouettes, showing that layering took precedent when it came to finding a focal point for their outfits. Bursts of color were seen from time to time with elaborate graphics on sweaters, however, neutral and earthy tones proved to be a strong choice throughout the week. Taking inspiration from the ’80s and ’90s trends including relaxed tailoring for, coats, trousers, and more, it appears that blazers and other leather garments are here to stay.
