With the release of the highly-anticipated The Super Mario Bros. Movie just over a month away, sneaker designer Andrew Chiou reveals his latest custom, a Nike Dunk Low “What the Super Mario.”

The conceptual pairs arrive completely mismatched, featuring a colorful patchwork assembly of the designer’s favorite characters and items from the Mario universe. Mystery Box graphics cover the toe box, Mario cap references decorate the heel counter, sawtoothed Bullet Bills are featured on the mudguard, and Toad’s polka-dotted mushroom hat is represented on the medial panels. Other subtle references are included of Yoshi, Boomerang Flower, Wario, Princess Peach, Bowser, DK, Princess Daisy, and Stone Block.

Take a closer look at the Nike Dunk Low “What the Upser Mario” customs above and find the inspirations behind the design below. More creations from Chiou can be found on his Instagram and Roommate(s) website.
