Carhartt WIP Taps Finnegan Travers to Capture Harsh British Landscapes and Teenage Nostalgia

Carhartt WIP has enlisted the London-based photographer Finnegan Travers to capture the essence of the U.K., examing the juxtaposition between the country’s ability to deliver hard and soft environments in a matter of miles — such as the rich coastal landscapes of Devon and the brutalism of its capital, London. The study culminates in Carhartt WIP’s Spring/Summer 2023 campaign, highlighting the workwear imprint’s classics that arrived back in January.

A sense of longing to find oneself is depicted throughout the campaign imagery, capturing three protagonists exploring their youth and identity. Black-and-white images are raw, deep, and loud, while color photography pops with oceanic scenes and intimate voyeuristic moments in bedrooms, punched with rich hues.

But of course, Travers’ work also put a focus on the clothes. Here we find a “Buttercup” yellow sweater crafted from the brand’s signature 440 gsm heavyweight cotton, coming as the perfect layering essential for SS23. To be worn alongside this, we’re treated to faded canvas vests, signature Detroit and Michigan jackets, and relaxed jeans that come together for a complete Carhartt WIP wardrobe.

Take a look at the campaign above, and shop Carhartt WIP SS23 online and in-store now.
