The Weeknd is building on his partnership with Australian coffee purveyor Blue Bottle. Over the summer, the singer and company announced their collaboration, Samra Origins, named after The Weeknd’s mother. In the time since, they’ve rolled out an instant hot coffee and cold brew, along with some official merch.

The XO singer has now returned with the release of Samra Origins Single Origin Vol. 1 and Samra Origins Single Origin Vol. 2. Sourced with beans from the Hambela Estate in Ethiopia, Vol. 1 is a naturally processed bean, offering a bold, fruity taste. Vol. 2 is washed – meaning the organic matter of the coffee is stripped away and the bean is then washed with water – for a cleaner, lighter experience.

“Ethiopian culture is an important part of my identity and I’m proud to work alongside the Blue Bottle Coffee team to shine a light on Ethiopian traditions, values, and of course, coffee,” Tesfaye said in a statement over the summer. “Growing up, I watched my mother perform Buna Tetu, a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony. This sensory experience helped shape my understanding of community and taught me to always honor my roots.”

“Samra Origins is a true passion project that I hope will inspire curiosity and encourage support for Ethiopia’s people, while also spreading the warmth and friendship so ingrained in Ethiopian culture.”

The Weeknd x Blue Bottle’s Samra Origins Single Origin Vol. 1 and Samra Origins Single Origin Vol. 2. launch online on Monday, December 4, for $22 USD per bag.
