In a recent conversation with Taylor Rooks for Bleacher Report, Lil Wayne sat down and shared which player he thought he compared best to in the rap game. To that question, Weezy only had one player in mind — LeBron James. While some may be quick to ask why like the journalist herself who suggested the likes of Giannis Antetokounmpo for his dominance, Kevin Durant for his scoring and even Steph Curry for his incredible ability to make a shot from anywhere, Lil Wayne was adamant about comparing himself to LeBron.

When asked why he thought to compare himself to the four-time NBA champion, Weezy drew parallels with their beginnings as young teenagers working on their craft and still being at the top of their game at the age that they currently are. He explains, “I would say that I’m like a LeBron. I dropped my first solo album when I was 14, and that’s the same album I’m talking about that went platinum. And Ive been doing this at this pace of higher ever since, just like him.” He even alluded to Tom Brady‘s legacy when he was constantly berated by the press about his retirement. Weezy recalled, “You remember Tom Brady, it was every year, even though he was winning the Super Bowl and all that, it still was, ‘Is this the year he’s gonna retire?’”

While he did admit that fans were not asking if he is retiring, he understood that they were always eager to know when his next project would be released. Weezy also shared his take on who should be the face of the NBA when LeBron retires, “To me I think the obvious answer is Ja [Morant]. The NBA is entertainment. What I mean by that is there was always Michael Jordan and that was, you know, like God.” He added, “Ja’s teams are actually competitive when he’s there and when he’s doing his thing.
