The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Marvel Studios has dropped Jonathan Majors after being found guilty of harassment and reckless assault.

The 34-year-old actor was signed to play the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) next big bad villain Kang the Conqueror, appearing in the 31st MCU film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania earlier this year. Majors was also set to continue playing the role in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty — which is now being referred to only as Avengers 5 — for its May 1, 2026 release. It remains to be which route Marvel Studios will take with the character; they have the options of either recasting Kang (similar to how they recasted Terrence Howard’s James Rhodes and Edward Norton’s The Incredible Hulk), or scrap Kang’s plotline completely and develop a new villain. THR adds that Loki’s Michael Waldron was hired by the studio in November to rewrite the draft for The Kang Dynasty.

A six-person jury found Majors guilty of harassment and reckless assault in the third degree on Monday, December 18. He was initially charged with four charges of assault, but was not found guilty of intentional assault in the third degree and aggravated harassment in the second degree. He was arrested in March 2023 after calling 911 to report that he had found his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, unconscious in their shared apartment. Police charged Majors after discovering bruises and other injuries on Jabbari’s body, including a fractured finger.
