YouTube’s New AI Tool Generates Clones of Artists’ Voices
YouTube is collaborating with John Legend, Charli XCX and more for its ‘Dream Track .’
While some musical artists have expressed their frustrations over their voices being cloned without their permission, YouTube has rolled out a new tool to do exactly that, albeit, actually working alongside the artists. The video platform recently unveiled a new feature called Dream Track that allows users to make their own music with an AI-generated clone of artists’ voices.
Available only on YouTube Shorts, users won’t be able to make full-length songs, but rather 30-second soundtracks. Thankfully, the only voices they’ll be able to use is from artists who are collaborating with YouTube on the feature.
Among the participating artists are pop legends, including Charlie Puth, Charli XCX and Demi Lovato. Also in the mix is Alec Benajmin, alongside John Legend, Papoose, Sia, T-Pain and Troye Sivan, giving users options for cloning across genres.
“I’m extremely excited and inspired… YouTube has been a great partner in outlining their approach to AI and understands the need to work together to develop this technology responsibly, ensuring it will accelerate creativity instead of replacing it,” Puth said.
For now, Dream Track is only available to a select group of creators in the US. When creating a Short, they’ll be able to type in a prompt for their concept and will suggest a few artists to generate the soundtrack.
In other tech news, Google searches may soon come with community-sourced Notes.
