NBA Commissioner Adam Silver revealed that the league is looking to further expand to cities in Mexico and Canada.

As per sports journalist Keith Smith, the commissioner “all but confirmed” during the Celtics-Knicks broadcast that the league will expand following the finalization of the new TV deal. Silver further stated that the NBA is looking into “couple of cities in the US” and specified that the league is interested in setting up teams in Mexico City, Vancouver and Montreal, the last of which has already reached out to them.

In May 2022, reports claimed that the NBA has plans to expand to Las Vegas (for its first ever team) and to Seattle, which could see the SuperSonics come home after the team was moved to Oklahoma City in 2008. The expansion follows a similar timeline to Silver’s recent comment as the expansions are meant to take place in 2024 following the expiration of the NBA’s TV deal.

Stay tuned for an official announcement from the NBA.
