Our Legacy Is in Its Indie Sleaze Era for FW23
Skinny scarves, distressed knitwear, loose tailoring and heels come together for a ’90s throwback.
Swedish label Our Legacy has become synonymous with deconstructed tailoring while delivering a contemporary edge to the everyday wardrobe. For Spring/Summer 2023, Our Legacy stepped foot in Milan to shoot a collection that was thrown up in the “air.” With the latter as the collection’s name, the brand took inspiration from the breezy characteristics of Mother Nature through climate-friendly fabrics that turned into lightweight suiting, tech-forward outerwear, and renewed versions of the brand’s iconic denim.
Now, Our Legacy returns to the Milan Fashion Week stage to showcase its new Fall/Winter 2023 collection. Shot in its Milanese outpost, the brand takes House signatures and applies a ’90s aesthetic to almost everything it touches, with many of the garments being shrunken and made to fit tightly, or on the flip side, inspired by children’s clothing that’s been enlarged for adults.
See pink ribbed mohair cardigans, super-cropped bomber jackets, fuzzy gray cardigans that have short sleeves (but are in fact nods to the overgrown kid’s clothes), and skin-tight tops printed with retro-inspired graphics. It’s here that Our Legacy starts to build its identity for FW23, as indie sleaze undertones are unmissably rife.
It’s not just leather jackets, double denim and pointed boots that ooze this energy, no. If you look deeper, scarves are thin and fuzzy, checkered patterns on shirts are evocative of the ’90s indie rock heydays, and knitwear is purposely distressed with the elbows and shoulders stretching the wool out into thin strands.
Tailoring is a staple part of Our Legacy’s output, and this season it’s also been given the grunge twist. Blazers are big, bulky, and padded on the shoulders, trousers are crinkled and loose, and in between is the shirt — a loose, open-chested number layered with thin scarves for that edginess that prevails throughout the collection.
Our Legacy is one of the industry’s greatest tastemakers, and its FW23 collection is here to set the tone. Take a look at the clothes in the gallery above, and stay tuned to Hypebeast to find more Milan Fashion Week FW23 content over the coming days.
