Giancarlo Valle Collaborates with Nordic Knots For a Rug Collection

A unique combination of Guatemalan and Scandanavian aesthetics.

Interior designer Giancarlo Valle had a decidedly worldly upbringing: he was born to Peruvian parents of Italian descent and was raised in San Francisco, Caracas, Chicago and Guatemala. Though his heritage is boldly reflected in his designs, he also looks to other corners of the world for inspiration, and his latest project sees him offering a unique Guatemalan-meets-Scandanavian aesthetic by teaming with Nordic Knots for a bold rug collection.

The rugs’ designs draw from both the hand-painted Guatemalan furniture present in Valle’s childhood home and Sweden’s rich folklore traditions, the latter of which led to the collection’s lookbook images being shot at the country’s famous Hälsingegårdarna (decorated farmhouses) which are decorated with original folklore paintings. The rugs in the offering are titled “All Hands,” “Buds” and “Loops,” and each is made of Nordic Knots’ signature New Zealand wool. Decoration is provided by custom graphics that Valle drew by hand in his studio, bringing the inspiration full circle: rich, earthy tan and green rugs feature striking trim while tan and reddish-brown rugs are each equipped with repeating prints.

You can expect the Nordic Knots x Giancarlo Valle rug collection to release via the Nordic Knots webstore on February 1.
